Frequently Asked Questions
How random is the List Picker selection?
Our List Picker uses a cryptographically secure random number generator to ensure each item in your list has an equal probability of being selected, providing truly fair and unbiased results.
What does "Allow duplicates" mean?
When this option is enabled, the same item can be selected multiple times. With duplicates disabled (default), each item can be picked only once per selection. For example, in a raffle where each person can only win once, you would leave duplicates disabled.
Is there a limit to how many items I can have in my list?
There's no hard limit on list size, though very large lists (thousands of items) may affect performance depending on your device. For most practical purposes like raffles, team selection, or decision making, the tool handles lists of hundreds of items without issue.
Can I save my lists for future use?
Currently, lists are stored in your browser's local storage, so they'll remain available if you use the same device and browser. We're considering adding import/export features in future updates.
How do I create fair teams with the List Picker?
To create two equal teams, set "Number to pick" to half the number of people in your list and ensure "Allow duplicates" is disabled. The selected items form one team, and the remaining items form the second team. For more teams, run multiple selections, removing already assigned members each time.
Can I weight certain items to have a higher chance of selection?
The current version provides equal probability to all items. For weighted selection, you can add the same item multiple times to increase its chances (e.g., adding "John" three times gives John three times the chance of being selected compared to items appearing only once).
